Global superstar Rihanna will turn on the Christmas Lights at Westfield Stratford City on Monday (Nov 19).
The rumour mill has been touting the 24-year-old ‘Umbrella’ singer as the chosen celebrity for weeks but bosses at the shopping mecca confirmed the news today.
Rihanna is expected to perform ‘Diamonds’ - a track from her new album ‘Unapologetic’ - in front of arond 15,000 fans on a stage set up in the Cherry Park area within Westfield.
A show-stopping display of pyrotechnics and lasers is promised and some lucky fans will be able to meet the singing sensation after her performance.
Young Ambassadors from Westfield’s Christmas charity partner Save the Children will count Rihanna down to the moment she pushes the button that will illuminate the centre with festive lights.
Myf Ryan, Westfield’s marketing manager, said: “Christmas is always such a special time of year for Westfield and we are so excited that Rihanna has chosen Westfield Stratford City to help celebrate the festivities.
“Our shoppers love Rihanna and we are proud to be able to host this unique and exclusive concert for UK fans.”
Rihanna is only the second celebrity to switch on the Christmas lights at Westfield Stratford City as teen heartthrob Justin Bieber was chosen to do the honours last year.
Rihanna will host the Christmas Lights Switch On from 5pm on Monday November 19 at Westfield Stratford City, E20.
