Adenturous Stratford duo Lloyd Morgan and James Rutt will race their way across India in a rickshaw in two weeks to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.

Lloyd and James will fly out to India on April 3 to travel from Fort Cochin, Kerala in the south of the country to Shillong, in the north east, to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimers Society.

They will have to travel in a tuk tuk, or a rickshaw, a 149cc three-wheeled pram capable of just 55kmph but limited by law to 45kmph, across mountains, jungle, and river deltas covering a distance of 3,500km in 14 days.

Lloyd, a locksmith, and James, a recruitment consultant, originally had a target of raising 1,000 but they have surpassed that total, raising nearly 3,000.

But they are determined to raise as much money as possible for those suffering with Alzheimer’s, after Lloyd’s father lost his life and his grandmother continues to battle the disease.

Lloyd said: “It’s amazing how many people come on board when you mention Alzheimers because it’s something that affects so many people’s lives.”

The duo are calling themselves the G&T racers which Lloyd describes as “a play on words between Grand Tour and the fact the British used to drink gin and tonics when they were in India to protect themselves against mosquito bites.”

Lloyd added: “We want to raise as much as possible so if we can do someone a favour while we’re doing it, then we will.”
