The boss of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been appointed to a senior role at the Ministry of Defence.

David Goldstone, who has spent three years as chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, will be taking on the role of chief operating officer at the government department.

Sir Peter Hendy, the chair of the LLDC, has praised Mr Goldstone for his work in the park, overseeing the regeneration of the area following the London 2012 Games and aiming to deliver on the promises made prior to them.

He said: “David Goldstone CBE has been an outstanding chief executive whom I have been proud to work with, in different capacities, over the last ten years.

“His leadership of major projects, most notably the highly successful management of the £9.3bn Olympic and Paralympic Games budget in the years before 2012, made him the ideal choice to take on the LLDC role, and these skills clearly remain highly sought after in and beyond Whitehall.”

Sir Peter added: “In the last three years Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has gone from strength to strength.

“Under David’s leadership, LLDC and its partners have transformed the lives of many thousands of people who now live in the new homes that have been built, or work in the new jobs that have been brought to east London. Further, over 15 million people have visited the Park and its venues.

“It is fitting that David will leave in the aftermath of what has undoubtedly been the most successful International Para-Athletics Championships and World Athletics Championships ever, which we have just hosted in the London Stadium.

“His will be a very hard act to follow and we wish him well in his new role when he takes it up.”

Prior to working for the LLDC, Mr Goldstone was chief finance officer at Transport for London, and also served as the government’s finance director for London 2012 between 2007 and 2012 - for which he was made a CBE.
