Young poets have launched a book addressing the refugee crisis.

The book, titled Newham Refugee Poetry Book, features verses from pupils across the borough.

It was launched at The Royal Docks Community School by the National Union of Teachers.

The union’s general secretary, Christine Blower said the book’s launch, which took place on December, 2 showed support for Syrians among the borough’s schools.

“Schools in Newham have been involved in promoting and supporting refugees for a very long time,” she said. “The children must be immensely proud of their school and of Newham.

“Education is a human right and should be one that is available to all.

“This book of poetry is a valuable teaching resource and should be used widely.
