The Muslim fasting festival of Ramadan may not be the obvious theme for the advertisement of Tesco groceries, but a schoolgirl’s eye-catching poster has won a competition for doing precisely that.
Eight-year-old Ruha Rifai, who attends Kensington Primary School in Manor Park, submitted her artwork after the supermarket invited local schools in the borough to get creative and design a poster about what the festivals of Ramadan and Eid mean to them.
Ruha’s striking design won a £300 donation for her school, as well as a £50 Tesco voucher for herself.
The Tesco dot com vans will provide more than £10,000 worth of food to 16 mosques across London, to help feed those in need this Ramadan.
“I would like to congratulate Ruha on her wonderful design” said London community manager, Eni Martins.
“We had so many brilliant entries, it was very difficult to select just one winner, but Ruha’s design stood out for us and it looks great on the back of the dot com van.”
Londoners will also be able to spot the van giving out free products at this year’s Trafalgar Square Eid celebrations on Saturday, July 25, sponsored by the supermarket.
“I am so excited for Ruha and think that this will be a fantastic way of displaying her work to the school,” said Kensington School Year 4 teacher Rebecca Derrick.
