A pub quiz has raised more than £850 for a children’s hospice.

Mark Ager pulled off a successful event at Custom House Pub on Tuesday that saw more than 10 teams take part in an evening of trivia to raise funds for Richard House Children’s Hospice.

The 46-year-old Ibis hotel sales manager was inspired to raise money after watching a friend run the marathon for the Beckton based charity in April.

“We all had a truly lovely evening and had great fun with some tricky and silly questions being asked throughout. Fines were imposed on people cheating on their mobile phones and this helped with a couple of extra pounds for the kitty as well.

“The hotel receptionists made a large donation from their own pockets of £190 which made me feel very humble and truly appreciative.”

The Recorder also entered a team on the night – and the Quizards of Oz ended up coming second.

Guests included pub regulars, local companies and the mayor’s office even supported the event with civic dignitary Bryan Collier MBE and his wife attending on the mayor’s behalf.
