Boleyn Ward voters will select a new councillor today

Voters in the Boleyn Ward are taking to the polls today for a by-election.

It was triggered following the death of Cllr Charity Fiberesima, who had served on the council for five years, in October.

Six candidates will be standing to fill the vacant seat – Veronica Oakeshott for Labour, Emmanuel Finndoro-Obasi for the Conservatives, Sheree Miller for the Liberal Democrats, Frankie-Rose Taylor for the Green Party, David Mears for Ukip and independent candidate Diane Ofori.

Only people living within the ward’s boundaries will be eligible to vote, with four polling stations open until 10pm tonight.

The count is expected to take place overnight.
