Newham Council has appointed an interim chief executive to take on the role for six months.
Katherine Kerswell has been chosen to take over from Kim Bromley-Derry, who announced earlier this year that he intends to retire at the end of August.
Her experience includes holding the chief executive role at four different councils and during the past three years has been running the major health care support services for Capita.
She will work alongside Mr Bromley-Derry throughout August and will be formally recommended for appointment at September’s full council meeting.
Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz, said: “I am delighted Katherine is joining us as interim chief executive. I am looking forward to tapping into her extensive knowledge of resident focus, commercial skills, and leading large organisations through change.”
She added: ““I am grateful for the work Kim has done in supporting my transition into the mayoralty and I recognise the contribution he has made to Newham over 11 years, including eight years as chief executive.”
