Police patrols are set to be increased in and around Stratford’s stations during the IAAF World Championships.

Thousands of fans are expected to head to the London Stadium every day for the tournament, which starts tomorrow.

Spectators will see enhanced patrols at key stations and on trains and tubes, including firearms officers and search dogs.

Supt Chris Horton from the BTP said: “Whilst there is no direct intelligence to suggest the Championship is being targeted, the public can expect an enhanced overt and covert presence from our officers.”

They will also be targeting gangs and opportunist criminals who may attempt to steal mobile phones and bags while people are distracted in the crowd.

Anyone can report crime or suspicious behaviour to BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency always call 999.
