Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed in a collision involving a car in East Ham.

Police were called at just after midnight on February 5 day to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Barking Road, near the junction with High Street South.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as Joseph Rogers, 42, of East Ham.

A post-mortem examination at East Ham mortuary gave the cause of death as multiple injuries.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are carrying out enquiries into the collision.

At this stage it is believed a dark coloured BMW had collided with Mr Rogers.

The occupants of the car abandoned it and left the scene following the collision.

Two men aged 19, and another aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All have since been released on bail pending further enquiries and are due to return to an east London police station in early April.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Henson, who is leading the investigation for the SCIU, said: “We are keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information about it or those involved.

“We are particularly keen to speak with a male cyclist of Oriental appearance who it is believed was struck by the BMW just prior to the pedestrian being fatally struck. It is believed this cyclist did originally stop at the scene.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information are asked to call the SCIU’s witness line on 020 8597 4874, police via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
