A deserted office block in Stratford will be knocked down and replaced by homes and retail units, if plans are approved.
East Thames Housing Association has submitted proposals for two four and five storey buildings containing 44 flats in Broadway.
The site is within the Stratford St John’s Conservation Area.
In a statement submitted along with the application, East Thames said the development would “enhance” the area.
It read: “As a highly accessible location close to local amenities and transport connections, the site is a prime redevelopment opportunity to deliver new homes and jobs.
“East Thames will introduce a contemporary development designed by award-winning architects, which responds positively and sensitively to the site’s context and the local environment.”
If the plans are given the green light, the scheme will offer a mix of two-bedroom flats with balconies and three-bedroom family maisonettes.
The new retail units would face on to the Broadway.
Newham Council planners have set a target date for a decision in October this year.
