Detailed plans for a development at Silvertown Quays for 2,500 homes and up to 14,000 new jobs will be unveiled today ahead of a second round of public consultation.

The Silvertown Partnership, which is behind the proposals, has developed the plans following feedback from people who took part in the first pulic consultation in January this year. More than 90 per cent of those who provided feedback at the exhibition in favour of the regeneration of the derelict and inaccessible site. The local community feedback identified a need for a local centre for the Royal Docks with shops, community facilities and amenities and the more developed proposals respond directly to this.

The plans will be unveiled tonight at the Siemens Crystal in the Royal Docks and will be followed by a three-day exhibition at Britannia Village Hall on April 3, 4 and 5. A planninng application based on the proposals for more than 2,500 homes, shops, parks and community facilities, will be submitted to Newham Council in late spring.

They will be unveiled by Richard Blakeway, London’s Deputy Mayor for Housing and Land, and Sir Stuart Lipton of The Silvertown Partnership ahead of a second round of public consultation.

Sir Stuart Lipton, of The Silvertown Partnership said: “Our vision for Silvertown Quays will re-engage the heritage of enterprise and innovation in the Royal Docks; securing a vibrant future by creating up to 14,000 new jobs and 2,500 new homes in a new and enlivened waterfront destination.”

“With such strong support from the local community and stakeholders, we will continue to gather feedback and ensure that these are taken into consideration. We look forward to feedback on the more developed plans which will clearly demonstrate how local people have influenced our proposals.”

In addition to new homes and businesses, the 62 acre site will become a new waterside destination attracting major global brands and businesses as well as millions of visitors bringing £33 million to the local economy each year.
