Plaistow has a new sporting facility after a piece of derelict land was transformed into a multi-use games area.

The site at the end of Maybury Road has a small-scale running track and outdoor gym equipment.

There is also the facility to play sports such as netball, basketball and five-a-side football.

Newham Council worked in partnership with Cumberland School, who will have access to the facility during the school day.

The community will be able to play sports on the site outside of school hours.

Cllr Ian Corbett, Executive Member for Infrastructure and Environment said:

“We want to ensure that there is something available for everyone, regardless of age, ability or interest.

“This new facility will ensure that our residents can partake in the sports that interest them at a time that suits them too.”

This is the third multi-use games area to be built in the borough, following the building of sites at Stratford Park and Royal Victoria Gardens.
