Residents are outraged after being left with no hot water for more than a month.

Numerous households in Nebula Court, Plaistow, claim they had no running hot water since May.

One Housing, the housing association who owns the block of 57 flats, said the problem was fixed by Monday afternoon and owed the lack of hot water to a “back-up of sludge.”

However, residents say it should not have taken the housing association this long to fix the issue.

Mr Ali, 38, who lives with his wife and four children, said: “This is the most ridiculous situation anyone can be in.

“It is hazardous and crazy to think that we’ve been left with no hot water for six weeks, and I have children to look after.

“We all have psoriasis (skin condition) and this has just made it worse. How can anyone be expected to live like this?”

Mr Ali also said that he had been in touch with One Housing, over a period of weeks.

He said: “Quite a lot of the neighbours have been on the phone to the housing association but in the end it results to nothing. They come and flush the system out, leaving water everywhere, and then it is back to square one again.

“It’s unsafe especially for young children having to wash in that.”

Another resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she was left traumatised when she came home to no hot water after having suffered a miscarriage.

She said: “I was in hospital having had a miscarriage and as you can imagine, that was very difficult to go through. When I returned home I still had no hot water and someone from the association actually told me to go live somewhere else for the time being.

“It’s horrible, all of my neighbours are in uproar. I pay more than £700 in rent including service charge, so you would expect these issues to be sorted out quickly.”

A spokeswoman for One Housing, said: We can confirm that the main communal system is now working, which we hope will reassure our residents. The cause of the issue was a build-up of sludge due to a partially blocked filter.

“We are taking steps to implement preventative measures to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.”
