Plaistow residents evacuated after suspected world war bomb discovered

Residents have been evacuated from their homes after the discovery of a suspected First or Second World War bomb on their street.

The shell was found by officers shortly before 4pm this afternoon in Grange Road, Plaistow.

A police spokesman confirmed residents had been evacuated from buildings, but could not say how many or for how long at this stage.

In a tweet, Newham Metropolitan Police said roads around Grange Road have been closed for safety.

Update: In a tweet shared shortly after 6pm, Newham Council said the incident has been resolved and made safe. It added that road closures have been lifted and residents allowed to return home.
