People in Plaistow took the chance on Wednesday to have a look at proposals for a rebuilt fire station.
The multi-million pound project at the Prince Regent Lane facility is due to start in June 2013, subject to planning approval by Newham Council. It will be funded via the private finance initiative.
Firefighters took time out to show residents the details and to answer their questions.
Plans for the new station include a community space to allow members of the public to easily access vital life saving fire safety advice.
London Fire Brigade has promised that fire cover will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Blue3 was selected as the contractor following a lengthy procurement process.
