For many parents, allowing their children to play out on the street is something that’s too dangerous nowadays.
But for youngsters living on one Plaistow street, a special day was held to allow them to do just that.
Friday saw First Avenue closed to traffic, while games, toys and a bouncy castle took the place of cars.
The day saw 50 children coming out and enjoying the sunshine on their street, with parents joining in with some of the fun.
Organiser Jacquie Parker said: “We hope that there are more to come because the children loved it and it was a big request from the them on the day.”
The inaugural First Avenue play street was aided by the council’s Let’s Get The Party Started fund and received support from Plaistow Community Neighbourhood.
