Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu officially opened a new garden at a Newham primary school, which contains a piece of turf from London 2012.
Christine, who grew up in the borough, also unveiled a plaque at Sandringham School to commemorate the occasion.
She listened to the choir sing the school anthem which was originally written to celebrate the London Olympics, as well as leading a question and answer session with sports leaders.
Pupils were also given the opportunity to try on some of Christine’s medals.
Headteacher Robert Cleary said: “The school was very grateful that Christine could find the time to visit the school and share her memories of London 2012. She spoke passionately about building upon the legacy of London 2012 and the importance of our children trying their very hardest at whatever they do.
“She added that to be successful at anything in life takes hard work and dedication. This fits in perfectly with the school ethos and it was wonderful to hear it from such a sporting superstar.
