Performers from across east London and beyond took part in pop-up parades, culminating in costumed dancers debuting the Carnival of the Animals show.

Talented youngsters also had a role to play as musicians, rappers and poets took to the stage to showcase their skills to the 50,000 strong crowd.

Adriana Marques, the park’s head of arts and culture, said: “It was such a memorable day; it was great to see so many Newham residents getting involved- making masks, joining the parades and even learning to samba!

“Hundreds of masks were made throughout the day and 90 local children went home with arts awards.

“East London is a hotbed of creativity and this is a huge part of what we want to do on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park- inspire the next generation of artists.”
