Petrol-soaked man in Plaistow threatens to set himself on fire

A man has been arrested after covering his body in petrol and threatening to set himself alight.

The 42-year-old made the threats from the top of a bus shelter in Barking Road, Plaistow, at about 8.40pm on Sunday.

Police said he was arrested at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage.

London Ambulance Service attended but a spokeswoman said the response team stood down at 11.23pm.
