A CHURCH pastor who left 22 bags of rubbish next to a litter bin has been fined £2,000 after being prosecuted by Newham Council.

Pastor Paul Akowe, 55, from the Deeper Life Bible Church in Beaumont Road, Plaistow, admitted a breach of duty of care offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Stratford Magistrates' Court heard that on January 8 a council street scene enforcement officer found 22 black sacks and two cardboard boxes left by a bin on the green open space in Beaumont Road. The bags were checked and it was found they were linked to the church nearby.

Mr Akowe was offered a formal caution, which he declined. When he appeared before the court, he admitted the offence. He must also pay court costs of £750 and a victim surcharge of £15.
