NEWHAM’S Young Mayor has welcomed a partnership that will give him and his colleagues the chance to support each other.

The British Young Council is joining forces with the Young Mayor Network which was established in 2008 by the Campaign Company to give directly-elected Young Mayors the chance to support each other and come together with a view to getting their voices heard on a national stage.

This new partnership will create the opportunity for both networks to work together, sharing resources and creating more opportunities for young people to lead at a local, regional and national level.

Ali Mohamed attended a recent reception at Westminster, along with fellow Young Mayors, BYC Chair Liam Preston and Children’s Minister Tim Loughton, to mark the new partnership. He said: “As a Young Mayor I’m looking forward to working more closely with BYC Members. It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn from each other, build on our strengths and be a powerful voice for young people. As a network we are strong and by coming together with BYC we are stronger still.”

The 12 strong Young Mayor Network was established and hosted by the Campaign Company in 2008. BYC, was established in 1948 as the national youth council of the UK. It now comprises a network of 620 local youth councils and 130 member organisations.
