A positive public attitude towards disability needs to be incorporated into everyday British life as a Paralympic legacy.
The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 has praised the Games’ organisers for an excellent event which highlighted extensive mobility services during the Games and the achievement of historic Paralympic attendance.
This contribued to widespread public involvement and coverage, bringing a reported positive shift in attitudes towards disability.
The Commission is, however, cautious as there are still lessons to be learned in ensuring disability provision continues to improve across transport services and non-Games venues. It hopes that this momentum is carried over into legacy to improve disabled facilities and accessibility to create a more socially sustainable society.
