Disabled youngsters have demonstrated their sporting prowess at an activities day in the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Time to Shine, a free pan-disability event for 11- to 18-year-olds, saw participants try a variety of inclusive sports yesterday in the hope that they take up a pastime in the future.

Up to 120 performers from east London boroughs including Barking and Dagenham, Newham and Tower Hamlets, had a go at wheelchair basketball, athletics, swimming and archery - among other sports - in short taster sessions.

They were coached by experienced and qualified coaches from various sporting organisations.

Time To Shine is a post-Paralympic legacy programme organised by charity WheelPower.

It feature several events through the year at venues including Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

To date, the project has sign-posted more than 1,500 young disabled people from east London to nearby sport and physical activity opportunities.
