It’s simple for Slade in final five

Leyton Orient welcome Bury to Brisbane Road tomorrow (Monday) and for manager Russell Slade the situation is simple.

A 2-1 defeat at struggling Scunthorpe on Good Friday left O’s five points off a play-off place with only five games remaining.

And Slade knows they are running out of time if they are to secure a top-six finish.

He said: “It makes the maths very simple, we’ve got to win them all.

“We’ve got Bury coming up, a must-win game for us, but we’ve seen what a struggling side have done.

“They’re not easy games and anyone thinking that is mistaken.”

O’s fell behind in the opening exchanges at Glanford Park as Akpo Sodje struck on three minutes.

And Niall Canavan’s header made it 2-0, before Kevin Lisbie nodded home from a Dean Cox corner on the stroke of half time to give O’s hope.

They could not force an equaliser in the second half, though, and returned empty-handed after seeing their nine-game unbeaten run brought to an end.

Slade added: “We’ve taken a big knock, but all we can do is go out and enjoy our football and try and score some goals against Bury and get three points.

“Anything can happen on any given day in this league, at the top and the bottom.”

Captain Nathan Clarke agreed with his manager’s assessment, adding: “We’re at home, we’ve got to look back to how we’ve been playing and get Coxy and Cooks on the ball.

“We didn’t seem to do it the past two games and we’ve fallen short.

“Hopefully we can get the ball down and look to break the lines a bit more.”
