One hundred people were evacuated from a Stratford building due to a manhole cover fire.
Firefighters were called at about 1.45pm and according to London Fire Service the electrical manhole cover was 100 per cent alight when they arrived.
Officers partially closed the busy westbound side of the road as a fire crew from Stratford tackled the blaze.
They also worked with UK Power Networks to help isolate the supply.
The fire was under control by about 3.55pm.
