The landscape architect who helped create the Olympic Park in Stratford died suddenly last week at the age of 59.

John Hopkins was the project sponsor of the site from 2007 to 2011 which meant he selected the team that designed and delivered the parklands that will become part of Newham’s landscape over the next two decades.

These included the north park’s Olympic Park blossom, spectator lawns, and wetlands as well as the south park’s London 2012 gardens and wildflower meadows.

Sir John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, said John was “pivotal in shaping and then delivering our vision.”
