Plans to turn the former Olympic Park press and broadcast centres into a creative hub were submitted yesterday.

iCITY intends to create a leading area for creative and digital industries, including providing space for start-up businesses.

Part of the Olympic Legacy, it wants to ensure that local residents benefit from its presence.

It will train up students from Hackney Community College and Loughborough University as well as hosting global companies.

Newham will benefit from the 7,500 jobs created, including 2,200 outside the site.

If the plans are approved, iCITY plans to begin construction work in summer 2014.

A number of tenants have already been secured, and it intends for the first ones to move in a year later, with the entire area completed by 2018.

The premises will consist of three main buildings designed for educational, broadcast and office purposes. Cafes, shops and restaurants will also feature alongside a yard that can be used for outdoor screenings.
