A garden celebrating the first residential legacy of London 2012 has won a gold medal of its own at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The project to build a garden celebrating all things East Village - formerly the Athletes’ Village in what is now the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - was created by Michael Baston and Marie-Louise Agius who were commissioned by Qatar Diar Delancey, joint housing provider with Triathlon Homes.
The pair took inspiration from the Olympic Park in Stratford and the surrounding Lea Valley area.
The garden aims to have an “urban feel” using materials from the construction of the new homes such as timber, glass, and steel balanced against the greenery of herbaceous plants, shrub borders, and mature trees.
This year marks the centenary of the Flower Show on the Chelsea site where it was first held in 1913.
