Three-time Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi MBE and Paralympic silver medallist Toby Gold launched a unique ticket offer for the World Para Athletics Championships, taking place at the London Stadium this summer.

The athletes showed off their pace and encouraged children from Carpenters Primary School to do the same at the London Stadium Community Track, next door to where all the action will take place this summer.

Joining in relay races, discussing their careers and showing off their medals was all part of the fun at the ticket launch launch, which is offering residents the opportunity to attend the games, taking place from July 14-23, at a discounted price.

“I’m a West Ham fan, I’m an Olympian and it’s great to think that the kids in the local area get an opportunity to come and train on the Olympic track,” retired sprinter and hurdler Kriss explained.

“I came here in 2012, I saw the performances like everyone else in the country and I was over that balcony watching the good and the great”

He said of the opportunity for the youngsters at the Friendship Way, Stratford school: “It’s great to know that they’re running in a lane which Usain Bolt ran on, to get into the stadium over that weekend, to see the Paralympians doing their thing, to recognise that this is a place not just for the elite, but also for me.”

The two stars were also joined by the Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales and chief executive Kim Bromley-Derry at the mini sports day event.

100m runner Toby added: “It feels incredible, especially to see all the kids get so excited about meeting a Paralympics medallist coming along is incredible, but it also reminds you how important sport is to everybody and the community in general.

“For them to be able to spectate and be part of the London Para Athletics World Championships is incredible and especially as an athlete, all we want is the stadium to be as full as possible because for us the atmosphere makes the games and the way the crowd responds is always really important and it’s really special for us.

“Hopefully having met a lot of these kids, I can now do them justice.”

The exclusive discount offer is only available until Thursday, April 6 for residents to buy adult tickets for £8 and under 16s tickets for £3.
