Follow in the footsteps of your sporting heroes at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s first Be Active festival.

Saturday’s free event will feature over 20 activities suitable for all ages and abilities to try out, including a number of disability sports.

There will even be the chance to meet an Olympic champion as skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnord will be making a guest appearance.

The festival comes as the culmination of the first ever European Week of Sport, with events taking place in 31 different countries.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the flagship for activities in the UK, harnessing the park’s legacy ambitions to involve as many people as possible in sport.

Lizzy, a UK ambassador for the initiative, said: “After our most successful summer and winter Olympics, there’s been a real buzz about sport in the UK and the Be Active campaign is a great way to keep the momentum going and get more people active.”

With activities including bubble football, adaptable cycling and new age curling, there is something new for everyone to try out alongside old favourites such as hockey, basketball and football.

Vicki Austin, head of sport at the park, said, “Sport is at the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and we’re thrilled to be hosting the UK’s flagship event on Saturday 12 September.

“Come down and see if you can try out all of the activities on offer – we challenge you to try out over 20 sports.”

The festival is part of the park’s Active People, Active Park programme to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to try new sports and increase physical activity.

No booking is necessary, with participants only needing to turn up at the South Lawn, near the ArcelorMittal Orbit, between 10am and 4pm, to take part in as many of the activities as they wish.
