Stratford’s own inspirational Olympian Christine Ohuruogu is coming home on Sunday to thank her local supporters.
The Newham & Essex Beagles athlete, who won a silver medal in the 400m and a gold in Beijing in 2008, will celebrate her homecoming as a special guest at the Newham Live site in Stratford Park.
Growing up less than a mile from the Olympic Stadium, it will be Newham’s chance to thank Christine, an honourary Freeman of the borough, for her work as a leading ambassador for the London 2012 Games and her community.
Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, said: “Christine’s silver medal win was a fantastic achievement and we’re all very proud of her.
“Her race was one of the moments of the 2012 Games that had the entire country on the edge of their seats.
“I’m delighted she’s able to join us to celebrate her amazing achievement.
“Christine has been a brilliant ambassador for both Newham and the London 2012 Games who has inspired a new generation of athletes.
Newham Live will host children’s activities, live music, sports, games and entertainment from 11am and will include screening of the Closing Ceremony of the Paralympic Games. Christine is due on stage at 6pm.
