Leyton Orient interim manager Kevin Nugent admits the only way he’ll be certain to carry on in the role is he starts winning games.

Nugent revealed to the Recorder on Thursday that he was the club’s interim manager until the end of the season, but the club is still to officially confirm his appointment.

And he started his spell in the position with a goalless draw against MK Dons at Brisbane Road today, which still sees the O’s without a home win this season.

Nugent remains pleased to be in the position, but admits if he doesn’t start winning games then he may soon find his position under threat.

“Interim manager is the job title, there were a few little bits and pieces that were banded around but that’s the situation,” said Nugent.

“That’s the title and I am happy. It’s all about winning games. If you win games then I’ll stay but if not someone else may come in and that is the case because whatever is best for Leyton Orient is what counts.

“If I was to step back to a number two again then so be it, I certainly don’t fear that situation.”

Orient moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference following the point picked up and while pleased with certain aspects of the game, he knows the club finds themselves in a battle to stay away from the relegation zone at this moment in time.

“It’s a both a battle against relegation and another in general,” he added.

“Every match you play is a bit of a battle. We are near the relegation zone so we need to make sure we recognise that and to get out of that you need to have the spirit and a strong performance.

“It was a difficult game up against the top scorers in the league. But we contained them to one double save from Gary Woods and we had some good opportunities in the first half.”
