A group of North Woolwich residents have spent time learning to make bath products as part of a community project.

Community action group The Momentum Project invited Lush Cosmetics to a street party to teach children and adults how to make luxurious bath products from scratch.

Lush Cosmetics – best known for making soap, bath bombs and face-masks encourgaed residents of Sheldrake Close to pedal a bike-powered juicer to turn fruit usually used in products into delicious smoothies.

The street party also celebrated the diverse communities who live in the area.

The Momentum Project teamed up with Lush Cosmetics to deliver the first Oasis Game to be played in the UK. The Oasis Game is a community programme that began in the favelas of Brazil. It has been played by more than 100 communities around the world. Now, on September 1 and 2 people from North Woolwich and Silvertown (with help from Brazilian practitioners) will realize a dream by bringing people together to co-dream, co-design and co-create a community project.

Ruth Andrade, Head of Environment at Lush Cosmetics said: “We are so excited about participating in the Oasis Game over the first weekend in September. In preparation we’re delighted to have been invited to the Sheldrake Close Street Party. It’s great to see that so much is already happening in North Woolwich to pull the communities together.”

Anna Lopez, coordinator of The Momentum Project said: “We were so excited to meet Keith Murray from Sheldrake Close. In organising this party he is proving the motto of the Momentum Project: that you don’t need to move out of your community to live in a better one. We are focusing everything we’ve got on the Royal Docks in Newham – with a mission to unite green businesses with the needs of east London communities and prove that local development can work for local people.”
