Students and staff at NewVIc sixth-form college in Plaistow held a minute's silence this morning to remember classmate David Adegbite.
The 18-year-old died on Sunday evening after being shot in the head in St Ann’s in Barking.
David, who was better-known by his nickname “Dutch”, had been studying IT at NewVIc and planned to go to Middlesex University later this year.
His classmates gathered today at 10.20am for a minute of silence.
A spokeswoman for the college said: “Everyone at NewVIc is deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of David Adegbite in Barking at the weekend. We understand that police have not yet confirmed his identity. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his family at this very difficult time.”
“NewVIc is a supportive community and a place of ambition, respect and non-violence, and this news about David and the manner of his death has hit us all very hard.”
She added that the college was helping everyone affected by his death to get counselling and support.
The police are treating David’s death as murder and have arrested two men, on aged 19 and one aged 20. Both have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
