Newham University Hospital’s new rooms for mothers

New mums can now treat themselves to a single room at Newham University Hospital’s Larch Ward with the launch of its amenity room service.

There are six rooms on offer to women and their families, each is spacious and offers an en-suite shower room with WC and a TV. Unlike normal rooms at the hospital, amenity rooms also allow for a partner, family member or a close friend to stay overnight in the room, ensuring a more relaxed and homely environment whilst new parents bond with their new child.

Marsha Jones, Matron for Maternity Inpatients said: “Our amenity rooms will provide women with something a little different after giving birth to their child. The rooms are spacious and offer women, babies and their families a little more comfort, space and privacy whilst on the ward in relaxing surroundings with a view into our well kept garden areas. After giving birth is the ideal time for mothers to treat themselves.”

“However, it is important that the women understand when booking an amenity room that their midwifery and medical care remains the same as for all NHS patients.”

Following the birth of a baby, women can ask their midwife to reserve a room on Larch Ward. These rooms are proving to be popular and are allocated on first come basis. Each room costs 120 per 24 hour stay, and 60 per 12 hours thereafter.
