A 16-year-old boy has been arrested this morning on suspicion of murder, after a teenager was killed following a birthday party.
Detectives investigating the murder of 15-year-old Jordan Douherty, from Chafford Hundred, made an arrest today, Wednesday, June 27, at an address in Newham and he remains in custody at an east London police station.
The investigation into Jordan’s murder continues.
Police were called to the North Romford Community Centre, Clockhouse Lane, Collier Row, at 9.05pm on Saturday, June 23, after reports of a large fight following a birthday party.
Early reports suggested that different groups were fighting and the centre was being damaged by youths.
Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended and were confronted by a large number of people.
Jordan was found suffering from stab wounds on the street nearby the centre.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short while later.
A post mortem examination held at Queens Hospital on Monday, June 25, gave Jordan’s cause of death as hypovolemic shock caused by a stab wound to the left ventricle of the heart.
DCI Smith said: “We believe that this birthday party was advertised on social media, resulting in a large number of people attending.
“A number of people were escorted out of the community centre and this led to a fight breaking out and tragically Jordan receiving fatal injuries.
“A bus driver who was assaulted, received his injures as a result of refusing to take a number of party goers who wanted to leave the scene.
“Response team officers who attended the initial calls were confronted with up to 100 plus youths and I would like to directly appeal to those present to contact police about what they saw and heard to help my team build a clearer picture of what took place.
“Equally, if you have video footage or images of the violent aftermath to the party, we need to hear from you.
“We are also aware of reports circulating that Jordan was involved in ‘drill music’.
“We are exploring all lines of enquiry to piece together what led to him losing his life, but there is no evidence at this stage that this was a motive.”
Three teenagers, aged 15, 16, and 17, who were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder have been released under investigation.
