Never ones to pass up an opportunity to party, the Newham Stroke Club held a celebration of Olympic proportions in Forest Gate.

Held at their headquarters at the Katherine Road Community Centre on Wednesday September 12, the community of stroke recoverers, their families, and carers said goodbye to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in our borough by partying in style.

The event featured live music for entertainment, dancing, nibbles, and even their own version of the Olympic Torch.

Started by Abdul Shakoor in 2005, after he suffered a stroke in 2001, to promote the welfare and interests of people who have had strokes and their family carers to share experiences and to take part in events to lead an active life.

Newham Stroke Club is held at the Katherine Road Community Centre, 254 Katherine Road, Forest Gate, E7 8PN.

They meet on Mondays 2pm to 5pm, Wednesdays 1pm to 5pm and the first and third Saturdays of the month at 10.30pm to 12pm.
