Newham is urging smokers to join Stoptober

The council is urging all smokers to take part in the Stoptober challenge.

The national 28 day challenge aims to support smokers to kick the habit, including a variety of free support including quit kits, apps and emails to help.

Cllr Clive Furness, mayoral advisor for adults and health, said: “The biggest killers in Newham are heart disease, cancer and respiratory disease – and smoking is a contributory factor in every single one of these.

“It is not just the health benefits people will enjoy by quitting. Stopping smoking will save residents an estimated £270 a month – more than £3,200 a year.”

Stoptober 2015 runs for 28 days from Thursday October 1.
