A sixth form college in Newham has been commended for outstanding development of student sports leadership skills by a sporting charity.

International charity Sports Leaders UK officially recognised Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) for their exceptional contribution to leadership development and volunteering in the community.

Sports Leaders UK awarded the college’s good practice and presented them with a plaque to certify their Leadership Academy status at a presentation recently.

Beth Harris, Sports Academy manager at NewVIc, said: “We have established very good networks with organisations in our community, and are able to offer opportunities to our learners, where they can gain practical skills to complement their knowledge. The Sports Leadership qualification provides a great foundation for further education or employment.”

Sports Leaders UK is a charity that changes lives by equipping people with the skills and motivation to create and run sporting activities in the community. These leadership skills also prepare learners for further education or employment. NewVIc was commended for developing a range of creative initiatives that go beyond the required learning outcomes of Sports Leaders UK awards and qualifications. They are only one of four London colleges that have attained this status.
