Junior doctors at Newham University Hospital are taking part in their second day of an all-out strike.
Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs the hospital in Glen Road, Plaistow, said that 123 junior doctors arrived for work across the trust’s five sites today.
It is slightly more than the 117 who worked their shifts yesterday. That number is equivalent to 11.6 per cent of around 1,000 junior doctors employed by the trust.
A hospital spokeswoman added: “Our contingency plans continue to hold and although we are able to transfer consultants and other staff across sites to provide extra support it hasn’t being necessary.”
The walkout is part of a long running dispute between the British Medical Association and the government over proposed contract changes.
