Thousands of carers across the borough could be entitled to more support than they currently receive.

That’s the call from Newham Council and NHS Newham Clinical Commissioning Group ahead of Carers Week, which begins on Monday.

People who provide unpaid care to family members, relatives or friends could be eligible for practical help or financial support to make their role easier as part of the Care Act 2014.

Councillor Clive Furness, mayoral advisor for adults and health said: “Caring for anyone is a selfless act and those who undertake this role deserve respect and admiration.

“However, it is just as important that their needs are supported as much as the person they are looking after.”

In addition to holding Carers Week advice stalls across the borough next week, a fun day for carers is being organised at Chargeable Lane Resource Centre on Saturday, June 13 between 11am and 6pm.
