Social housing residents from across Newham attended a taster day at Stratford Town Hall to find out more about starting their own businesses.

Many had ideas of starting up agencies for specialist cleaning services and kitchen assistants to interior design and export .

They were all hoping to take part in a ‘Start Your Own Business’ being run by Arhag Housing Association with training provided by Aspire Foundation. Pledging their support for the scheme are three other BME organisations including Odu-Dua and Shian Housing Associations. No qualifications or experience are required to take part – just a great idea!

It will provide up to 25 people with business skills training worth 1000 between March and April. The best of those will then have the opportunity to pitch to the Arhag Dragons to win a first prize of a 15,000 cleaning contract or up to five start-up packages of between 500-1000 each complete with on-going mentoring.
