Donations of food and clothing for people affected by the Haiyan typhoon by Newham residents have filled two rooms in an overwhelming response.

What You Do Matters, an organisation that inspires young people to realise that they can make a difference in the world, appealed for a variety of items to be donated and has been inundated with goods.

The donated goods, dropped off at Our Lady of Compassion church in Upton Park, will be shipped abroad to the Philippines Red Cross in a 20ft shipping container donated by Forex Cargo UK.

The event was organised by Jacqueline Fernandez, 25, the founder of What You Do Matters.

She said: “We are no longer taking donations due to the overwhelming response. I now have two room full of donations. It’s been incredible.”
