IMD Legion may have crashed out of Britain’s Got Talent last night but members of the street dance crew are still hopeful that their journey on the popular ITV talent show is far from over.
The 23-strong dance troupe is “optimistic” that it will secure the show’s one wildcard, which will see a semi-final act make it through to Sunday’s final.
“They are keeping upbeat and positive,” said Gemma Cooney, mum to IMD Legion dancer India Cooney, aka Lil Indz.
“They are resting their legs today but there is work to do and they will be back to training tomorrow. Their journey hasn’t stopped yet.
“We’re going to put all of our energy into campaigning for the wildcard. Ant and Dec re-tweeted us this morning.”
The wildcard is picked by the four judges who have given the young performers aged between nine and 18 rave reviews.
The group had performed a routine on last night’s semi-final show that was jam packed with back flips and high kicks and they received a standing ovation from the four judges, who saluted the group.
“It’s mixed emotions today,” added Gemma, who also helps to promote the IMD Legion.
“They didn’t get through to the final but they are thrilled by how their performance went, which was faultless, and they got an IMD salute from Simon Cowell. It doesn’t get much better than that.
“I believe that everything happens for a reason and if they do get the wildcard then perhaps not going through at the semi-final stage will have been a blessing in disguise.
“I hope it’s all mapped out for them.”
But no matter what happens this week, the youngsters have a busy schedule ahead of them. In August they will be flying to San Diego in the USA to represent the UK at Hip Hop international, an elite street dance competition.
Gemma added, “I’m so proud of India and all of the kids. They are like my own children. When you’re an IMD mum, you agree to take on 22 other children too.”
