The council is spreading some seasonal cheer by giving thousands of older residents a special Christmas hamper.

The Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, and Cllr Ken Clark, joined hundreds of hamper recipients to celebrate the start of the third annual campaign at the Old Town Hall, in Stratford on Monday.

The campaign aims to deliver 3,000 hampers to people aged 70 and over, who live alone and are on low incomes. Hampers consist of a range of treats including tea, coffee, jams, biscuits, soup, vegetables and shortbread.
