A teenage student at Newham College has drowned while on holiday in America.

Daniel Olatunji, 18, died in intensive care hours after he was found unresponsive in a Los Angeles hotel pool.

The teenager was said to have been on a trip of the US with his mother, 54, who lives in Silvertown, Newham.

Following Daniel’s death, an online fundraising page was set up, raising £14,000 in order to bring his body home.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We supported the family of a British man who sadly died in California in December 2016.

“Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

An inquest into Daniel’s death will be held on a date to be fixed at East London Coroners’ Court.
