Newham Sixth Form College is appealing for help to send disadvantaged students abroad to volunteer.
The Plaistow based college needs support to win funding so students can take part in an overseas expedition with sustainable development charity Raleigh International.
Voting is open until May 30 and judges will then review bids from a shortlist of charities which received the most votes.
The bid is part of Raleigh’s Youth Partnership Programme which supports young people who face personal or financial challenges to volunteer on a development project in Borneo, Costa Rica, Nicaragua or Tanzania.
The programme also helps to develops student’s employability prospects and encourages them to become more active in their communities.
“We invest in our students’ all-round development as well as their academic success,” said Steven Kern, youth activities leader at Newham Sixth Form College.
“Offering an expedition in partnership with Raleigh has formed a staple part of our student enrichment programme which encompasses understanding our world, our community and leadership. We need the Newham community’s support to make this a reality for more of our students.”
