Around one hundred volunteers pulled together to spruce up Newham City Farm in Beckton just in time for summer.
Special guest Stephen Timms MP arrived to see the improvements last week as the volunteers installed a new zip line in the children’s play area and painted a giant wall mural.
The teams, all employees from food service company Aramark, also spent the day revamping the orchard and making animal tracks through the grounds.
Aramark director Val Carter, who helped organise the event as part of the company’s annual “building community” project, said it was “a great way for us to get closer to the community, offering our support and commitment, while engaging with our existing employees.”
The farm, in King George Avenue, is one of the largest in London and is home to rare breeds such as the Berkshire pig, red poll cow, golden Guernsey goat and a working shire horse.
