The charity, which provides lunch clubs, classes and library services to Newham’s chinese community, was one of 50 to be invited to The Health Lottery Tea Party at the Savoy Hotel last week.

The party showcased the work that charities funded by The Health Lottery do to reduce health inequalities. The Newham Chinese Association is funded by People’s Health Trust with money raised through The Health Lottery.

The event, hosted by Simon Cowell, also celebrated the £100 million which has been raised through the lottery. The X Factor judge was joined on stage by his son Eric, who shook hands with the charity workers.

Elaine Shun Ping Cheung, vice chair of the association, said: “It was important to celebrate the amazing work local charities and community groups are doing in their neighbourhoods, which wouldn’t have been possible without this money.”
